I can frequently be found working as an academic editor for Sidestone Press. They are not your average publishers, but an academic publishing house founded by scholars, for scholars, whose main ambition is to make scientific information available to everyone. Their books are primarily printed-on-demand, and are published both as hardcopy printed books and as digital e-books that can be accessed freely online. This open-access policy very much resonates with my own belief that access to research should not be dictated by money, and have published all my books with them.
At Sidestone I do both proofreading and editing work, as well the lay-outing of books to prepare them for publication. The Sidestone founders Corné van Woerdekom and Karsten Wentink have been kind enough to share their knowledge with me and teach me how to (better) use programs such as Indesign and Photoshop and teach me the tricks of the publishing trade. Recently, I also started working on their marketing, and took up the role of implementing a new visual identity and update their website and social media.
